ChowNow vs Owner.com (2026): Pricing, Features, and What Owner's Deleted Comparison Page Claimed

This page is published by KitchenRush, a restaurant operating system for independent owners. We compare a competitor category here, so read with that in mind — every claim below is sourced, and the archived quotes are reproduced exactly.

ChowNow and Owner.com are two of the most common answers when an independent restaurant owner asks, "How do I get online orders without paying 30% to the delivery apps?" Both sell commission-free direct ordering. They price it very differently, and they disagree about what matters most.

Owner.com used to publish its own ChowNow comparison at owner.com/comparison/chownow-vs-owner. That page — cited by Contrary Research's Owner memo as a primary source on Owner's positioning — has been deleted. As of July 19, 2026, the URL returns a 404 with no redirect, and the entire /comparison/ section is gone. Because that page contained some unusually candid statements from Owner's own CEO, we've preserved its key claims below, quoted exactly from Wayback Machine snapshots.

What each platform is

ChowNow (founded 2011) sells commission-free online ordering for independent restaurants: direct ordering on your website and branded mobile app, a commission-free marketplace, and a "discovery network" that pushes your menu to Google, Yelp, Apple Maps, and other sites. Its homepage states that "ChowNow is 100% commission-free with no hidden fees". Per Contrary Research, ChowNow served roughly 22,000 restaurants, last raised a $21M Series C in May 2019, and its CEO said in March 2024 that the company is profitable.

Owner.com sells a bundled growth system: an SEO-optimized website, online ordering, a branded mobile app, loyalty, and AI-driven email/SMS marketing, all under one flat platform fee. Its pitch is less "ordering software" and more "we grow your direct sales so you depend less on DoorDash and Uber Eats."

Sources: ChowNow's pricing page and Owner.com's pricing page, both fetched July 19, 2026. ChowNow's plans differ mainly by marketing volume (500 / 2,000 / 5,000 contacts and message credits). Owner says its Flat Rate plan makes sense above roughly $5,000/month in online sales. One more ChowNow fee worth knowing: orders placed through the ChowNow App or eat.chownow.com (not a restaurant's own site) carry a diner-facing 7.5% "Support Local Fee," which ChowNow says exists "to keep ChowNow 100% commission-free for restaurants" (ChowNow support).

What Owner's own (now-deleted) comparison page claimed

Everything in this section is what Owner.com said about itself and ChowNow on its deleted comparison page. These are one side's marketing claims, preserved for the record — not our findings.

The Capterra rating comparison

The final capture (September 6, 2025 snapshot) led with headline Capterra scores of Owner 4.9 vs ChowNow 4.0, labeled "Ratings current as of 2025," and showed this category breakdown under "How Owner stacks up versus our competition":

Category (as presented by Owner)OwnerChowNow
Ease of use4.94.7
Value for money4.84.3
Available features4.83.7
Customer service4.93.5

These were Owner's selections from Capterra data, published on Owner's own sales page. Checked directly on Capterra in July 2026, the picture has shifted: ChowNow now sits at 4.7/5 overall (ease of use 4.8, value for money 4.7, customer service 4.7), while Owner.com is at 4.6/5 (ease of use 4.7, value for money 4.4, features 4.5, customer service 4.6) — a much closer race than Owner's own 2025 snapshot suggested, with ChowNow now ahead on several categories.

The conversion and reorder claims

The same snapshot claimed a "2-4x conversion rate on Owner websites vs. average" and "+85% reorders from guests using Owner's mobile apps." The earlier April 4, 2024 snapshot phrased it: "Our online ordering system converts 2-4X better than the industry average." Owner published no methodology for either figure on the page.

Adam Guild's positioning statements

The most quotable part of the page was a signed letter from Owner CEO Adam Guild. Two lines stand out — the second is the one Contrary Research quotes from Owner's competition page:

"Owner is for restaurants that already have online orders coming in."

"Owner is more expensive than many of our competitors. That's why I recommend signing up for Owner only when you have online orders coming in."

(September 6, 2025 snapshot)

The 2024 version was even more direct about ChowNow specifically:

"Owner.com is the premium option over ChowNow, so if you're looking for the lowest-priced option, you may be better off with ChowNow."

"Owner.com is best for restaurants that are already doing a lot of volume on third-party delivery apps. ChowNow is better if growing direct online sales isn't your priority."

Owner's 2024 FAQ even said it sometimes recommended ChowNow — for restaurants that "do less than $2,000 a month on third-party delivery apps," or established brands not focused on growth (April 4, 2024 snapshot).

What Owner said about ChowNow's weaknesses

Owner's 2025 FAQ characterized ChowNow as "an app like DoorDash and Uber Eats that people use to order food" — minus the commissions — and claimed that "when Google visitors try to order, ChowNow sends them to the ChowNow app, which isn't good for your website's Google ranking" (September 6, 2025 snapshot). That's Owner's framing of a competitor, on a sales page; ChowNow's current site emphasizes direct ordering on your own website and app alongside its marketplace.

Sometime between the September 2025 capture and mid-2026, Owner removed its entire /comparison/ section with no redirects — the CEO's "we're more expensive, and you might be better off with ChowNow" admissions went offline with it.

Who should choose which

ChowNow fits newer or lower-volume restaurants that want commission-free ordering at a predictable price, and that value marketplace and discovery-network exposure they don't have to market for. Notably, Owner itself recommended ChowNow for restaurants under ~$2,000/month in third-party sales — from its own archived comparison page.

Owner.com fits restaurants that already have meaningful online order volume and want to convert third-party demand into direct sales. By its own CEO's words, it's the more expensive option and only worth it once orders are flowing.

A third option: KitchenRush

KitchenRush is a complete restaurant operating system for independent owners. Instead of buying ordering software and marketing tools separately, it consolidates a branded website, online ordering, delivery-app integration, AI marketing, social automation, customer messaging, and local SEO in one place. Plans run $99–$449/month, commission-free ordering is included starting on the $99 Starter tier, and there are no contracts — cancel anytime.

FAQ

Is ChowNow really commission-free?

ChowNow's site says it is "100% commission-free with no hidden fees". You still pay the monthly subscription, payment processing (2.95% + $0.29), and per-order delivery fees like $7.98 Flex Delivery (pricing page).

How much does Owner.com cost in 2026?

$249/month plus a 5% restaurant fee per order (Flexible), or $499/month flat. Customers pay a 5% order support fee on both plans. Month-to-month, no long-term contract (Owner pricing page).

Did Owner.com really say ChowNow might be the better choice? Yes — on its own comparison page, since deleted. The 2024 version said that if "you're looking for the lowest-priced option, you may be better off with ChowNow" (Wayback snapshot).

Where did Owner's comparison pages go?

Owner removed its /comparison/ section; as of July 19, 2026 the ChowNow page returns a 404 with no redirect. Nineteen Wayback Machine captures exist from April 2024 through September 2025.

Are the Capterra scores on this page current?

The Owner-vs-ChowNow table above shows what Owner published ("Ratings current as of 2025") on the archived page. We also checked Capterra directly in July 2026 — see the updated numbers earlier in this article — and ChowNow has since pulled ahead on several categories.
