Text your customers from your own number

Updated July 4, 2026

A texting line gives your restaurant its own SMS number — customers text it, you reply from the dashboard, and the whole conversation lives on their customer record.

Getting a number

Carriers require every business texting line to be registered — that's industry-wide, not a KitchenRush rule. The setup walks you through it: the sole-proprietor path is the fast one (no EIN — you verify with a code texted to your own mobile), while the standard registration uses your EIN and supports higher volumes. Registration takes carrier review time, and the setup screen shows where you are in the process.

Using it

  • Open a customer and text them from their profile — the thread shows both directions, timestamped.
  • Inbound texts from a number that's already one of your customers land on that customer's thread automatically, matched by phone. A text from a number that isn't yet a customer is captured but isn't auto-attached to a profile — so it won't show on a customer's thread until that number is linked to a customer.
  • Opt-outs are honored automatically — a customer who texts STOP stops hearing from you.
Note: Sending and receiving SMS needs the texting feature switched on for your account. You can register your line, but the actual send/receive goes live once texting is enabled — check with support if the workflow looks set up but messages aren't moving.
